Ivyl was born December 21, 1887. He would have been a year old on the journey from his grandfather's farm in Van Meter, Iowa to the homestead in Nebraska. It was his job, during the 1895 return to Iowa, to ride horseback beside the wagons and head the colts. He was eight at the time...
By 13, he was working as a cattle herder, while the younger children went to school. (The exception was Maybel, who while older, still attended school.)
Ivyl met his futre wife in Wyoming, although she was born in County Claire, Ireland. He barried Nellie Brown on May 24, 1925. They had three children, Frank, Helen and Alan. Ivyl trained horses, was a miner and a ranch foreman. He traveled coast to coast during the 1930's.
Ivyl died July 27, 1948. Nellie died Octover 23, 1983. Both are buried in Tacoma, Washington.
Frank was our first born, arriving February 27th, 1926. He married Maryanne Grill June 27th, 1959. Frank has retired from the Union Pacific Railway as yard master and lives in Whittier, CA. Maryanne's daughter Margie Honetschlaeger also lives in Whittier, CA. Now Frank, don't be telling everyone you are the youngest in the family.
Helen, our second, arrived September 29th, 1927. She married Ken Evans October 4, 1952. They have seven children. They are: Pat Boni (July 28, 1953); Barb Saylor (May 1, 1955); Time (Sep 16, 1956); Robin Mercado (Jul 17, 1961); Marty (Oct 23, 1962); Kari Pickering (Nov 8, 1963); and Tom (May 10, 1965). They lost their beloved son Tim at age 21 in 1978. They live in Tacoma, Washington surrounded by their children and grandchildren.
Alan, last but not least, arrived January 17, 1930. I think because he was the youngest, I might have spoiled him a little. However, May 18, 1947 he was ordaingd a Priest, so I must have done something right. He taught in school and had a parish in Albuqueque, NM.
